Before you start
You don't need drawings. These five things make the first conversation much more useful.
- Footprint you want. Length × width in feet. If you're near a line, note it: inside Wichita, 200 sq ft is the building-permit cutoff; in unincorporated Sedgwick County it's 400 sq ft. Both still require a MABCD location permit (Ord. 50-833, Res. 080-2017).
- Distance from the house. Pace it off. It affects setbacks, utility runs for water and power, and whether an attached design makes sense.
- Which side gets sun. Stand at the spot around noon. Note trees, fences or buildings to the south. In December the noon sun is only 28.87° high in Wichita, so a 6-foot fence casts about an 11-foot shadow (6 × 1.81).
- City or county address. Check your property tax statement or the county map if you're unsure. It changes the permit rules. Our permit guide explains each jurisdiction.
- Soil and water notes. Does the spot hold water after rain? Is it heavy clay or sandy? Do you have a private well? This matters most for underground designs; see the sun-angle and pit-depth guide.
Photos of the site from the north looking south help a lot.

What happens next
- We review your request. We look up your jurisdiction, check the permit threshold that applies and review your photos.
- We reach out by email to talk through your goals and any questions about the site.
- Site visit, if it makes sense. We confirm sun, soil, drainage and access in person.
- Written scope and quote. Size, foundation, glazing, anchoring, permits and what's included. Pricing depends on those choices. As a rough starting point, national cost guides put professionally built greenhouses at about $5 to $35 per sq ft (HomeAdvisor, Apr 2024). Your written quote replaces that with real numbers.
There is no obligation. We use your details only to respond about your project; see the privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't you ask for a phone number?
We start by email so you have the details in writing. If you'd like a call, say so in the notes.
Can you help with an NRCS high tunnel application?
Tell us what your contract's practice standard requires, and the quote will say how the tunnel scope matches it. The Kansas FY26 EQIP rate for an enclosed high tunnel is a $5,453.95 base plus $4.79 per square foot (FY26 schedule). Your application goes through your local NRCS office. See our NRCS high tunnel grant guide.
I'm not sure what type of greenhouse I want. Should I still ask?
Yes. Choose "Not sure" and tell us what you want to grow and when. We'll suggest options that fit your site.
Do I need a permit before I request a quote?
No. Part of our scope is telling you what permits apply and preparing what the jurisdiction requires.
